We left MA on Monday, November 18, working our way down to FL, arriving Tuesday afternoon. Our path mimicked our previous ones with stops in Hershey, Staunton, Fayetteville, Savannah, and then onto FL. What was different about this trip down?
Well, we didn’t have any big mishaps, nor did we get lost; we’re gaining experience and it’s paying off. One difference is that Jeanne didn’t travel with us this year; she flew down several days before our departure. Sitting in the back seat for three days for 5+ hours a day, got old we think. We met up with her in Fayetteville at Denise’s and Dennis’. We spent five days in Fayetteville and had a wonderful early Thanksgiving celebration last Thursday. Denise put together the meal and it was fantastic. Dennis is recovering from shoulder surgery and Evan and I managed to help with some chores around the house. We enjoyed our time with them, as usual, getting caught up and making plans for our return in late March.
12.1-Walnut-Hills-Campground
Except for our five-day stay in Fayetteville, the other stops in Hershey, Staunton, and Savannah, are quick overnight stays. We arrive around 3:30 P.M., set up, have a bite, rest, and sleep. Then, up for breakfast, pack up, and hit the road. The drive is fairly simple, we head down Route 91, to Route 84 and to Scranton to pick up Route 81. We stay on 81 until we reach Staunton, then east to Richmond on Route 64. Richmond is where we pick up Route 95 which will eventually bring us to Daytona Beach where we follow Route 4 to Lakeland, FL. Besides Richmond, we avoid many “big” cities which can add unwanted stress. Most people drive defensively but, there are a few that seem to have total disregard for safety, risking life & limb of themselves and those around them, as they weave in and out of traffic, well beyond the speed limit. We are very grateful for our safe travel and arrival.
We’re happy to be back in Florida! The temperature upon arrival was in the 80s without a cloud in the sky. Setting up for our two-month stay in Lakeland requires a little more time than those quick stops. Items like the grill, small table, rug, chairs, etc., all come out from the storage below the trailer. We’ve been laying low since our arrival and decompressing from our jaunt along the East Coast.
We now have the ability to hang our U.S. Flag and also added Starlink to our gear to overcome campground Internet which can be unreliable, at times. Although we now live a slightly more sedentary lifestyle, we still have important duties to conduct over the WWW. Most campgrounds have some sort of Cable TV but it can be unreliable. It can also be a pain to set up each TV with the local cable provider. We cut-the-cable at home and now have the ability to bring TV with us using YouTube TV. That, in conjunction with Starlink, allows us more options. Bandwidth with Starlink so far has been very good. We also have the ability to “pause” both YouTube TV and Starlink services when we don’t need them; another plus!
Mag has been filling my Outlook calendar with many activities and we look forward to sharing them with all of you soon.
