Wednesday – 12/28 – We were able to sleep in this morning which was really nice! After lazing around for a couple of hours, we started some chores for the day:
- Check tires and tire pressure
- Lubricate hitch
- Filled both propane tanks
- Shift storage items around
- Fix door/screen
Denise, Dennis, Jeanne (aka Gava) Evan stopped by to check out our
home-on-wheels and then it was off to lunch. We met at Bubba’s 33 (Real Food, Real Fresh and Real Good) for some southern style cooking with an American touch. It was a nice visit, lots of stories, lots of laughs and fun. We said our goodbyes and then off to get Mag to a Mani-Pedi. While she was enjoying that, I fueled up the truck and ran it through the car wash.
Back at the site, we went for a walk around the park to check it out, a little mini golf, then a small dinner. Evan had baked some cookies for us but forgot to bring
them to lunch so he ran them out in the evening. A very nice gesture which we really appreciated. After our visit with Evan, we off to the bath house to get ready for an early night to bed. We’re both feeling a little tired despite our day of rest but I think it’s to be expected considering what our days have been like for nearly a week. It’s been almost a week already.
Tomorrow we want to head out at 8 o’clock for the drive down to Brunswick, GA. It is 345 miles down route 95, the campground is right off the interstate. We’re considering leaving the trailer hitched to the truck when we get there since it will only be for one night, it will save us some time on setup and breakdown.
Thursday – 12/29 – We got off this morning at 7:30, a little ahead of schedule. The drive down to GA was fine except for some on/off again bumper-to-bumper traffic across South Carolina. We were so excited about arriving early but the traffic got us here about 3:15. The sun was out most of the day and Brunswick was a little over 70 degrees. Last fall we winterized the RV, which entails removing as much water as you can from the plumbing system and then running nontoxic RV antifreeze through out the system. That process took 4-5 hours since it was my first time but, next time, I think I can cut the time in half. Because we’re in the midst of winter, we have to leave home with it winterized. Absolutely no water on board. If a pipe breaks
on an RV, water damage can cause extensive damage so we decided we wouldn’t take on water until we could see a long range forecast with cool to warm temperatures (I realize this is a relative term). We reviewed the weather for the next 10 days and it looks like it will range between an overnight low in the forties and highs in the seventies.
When we arrived at the RV Resort (definition of resort has been expanded greatly) we
unhitched, got the electricity and cable TV connected, as usual. For some reason I can’t get the cable TV to work, not that we watch a lot of TV, but I’ll get that figured out another day. I connected the sewer hose and water line to the trailer. We ran the water inside
the trailer until we could not see any hint of pink in the water from the antifreeze but you can tell there still traces of antifreeze because the water foams up a little bit. We don’t normally drink the RV water anyway but it’s great for washing dishes, your hands, and so on, eventually the foam will dissipate.
We are shooting for an 8:00 departure tomorrow. The drive to Marianna, FL is roughly 285 miles, a shorter drive then normal which will allow us to enjoy a leisurely pace. We will be there for two nights so we can relax a bit too.
Are you going to Apalach for some oysters and a Trice and Jim visit?
Not sure. We’re here two nights then back on the road early Sunday morn. On our return we will definitely be visiting on our return trip. We have 30 days in Freeport, FL and Eastfpoint for 3 nights.
I did not realize all the work it takes to hitch, unhitch etc. Many decisions which need to be made everyday. Since you added the water, that must add more weight to the driving. I enjoy reading about the mechanics of the trip.
Have fun in the warmer weather.
Excuse me?? How am I not suppose to worry about you when ya didn’t post on the 30Th hhmmmm?
