In NASA parlance, we are ready for launch! The trailer is in position, ready to load up with supplies, clothing and fuel.
Launch day/time is: 08:30:00 Thursday December 22.
We have been watching the long range weather forecast and conditions are less then optimal however, we expect the launch to go ahead as scheduled. We expect we will see snow during our travels Thursday through Friday as we navigate to Hershey, PA, then onto Staunton, VA. Maintenance tasks have been completed or ongoing; check tires, tire pressure and lug nuts on both truck and trailer, lubricate hitch and pin, wash truck windows, inspect outside of the trailer, check and test all appliances and accessory equipment, top off fluids. The truck was recently serviced so it’s ready.
Over the next several days we will focus on gathering our belongings and pack what we can now; clothing, food, supplies. Recently we noticed the dish detergent inside the RV had frozen so we packed up all the liquid items and temporarily stored them in the house. As we get closer to departure; we’ll bring all the liquids back into the RV. Considering it is winter here and temps are often below the freezing point, we will have no water onboard. We will need to travel with jugs of water for food prep and nourishment. Once we reach warmer climes, we can add water to the holding tank but this means keeping a close eye on the weather. A pipe bursting on a RV is a big problem.
Our goal is to travel approximately 350/day. This equates to approximately 6+ hours on the road including a couple of breaks. If we do come across some snow, we expect this will slow us down some. Arriving at our destination mid-afternoon allows us to set up while it is still light out with some time to relax, have dinner, relax some more, and then rest.
I’m registered and very excited.
Looking forward to your adventures.
We’re very excited too but anxious also. Lots of items to check off on our lists!
Exciting! Safe travels and I look forward to updates.
Thanks Mark!
