Our second trip was to the KOA in Dummerston, VT. We had made plans with Omei to spend
time together during our stay there.
We had been getting better at hitching/unhitching the trailer and setting up. The trailer has three slide-outs; (1) in the bedroom, (2) opposing slides in the living area. There are also two awnings on the living side of the RV. The trailer also has an Auto Leveling system.
After finding our assigned site, we park the RV, and unhitch the trailer. We have to raise the trailer up so there is a small space between the Hitch (inside the bed of the truck) and the Pin Box (mounted on the trailer). Next we pull a lever to disconnect the hitch from the pin and drive the truck out. We then level up the trailer by pressing the Auto Level button. The six legs come down and jog the trailer up and down until it reaches level. If the ground is not reasonably level, we use leveling block to get it closer. We chock the wheels so the trailer does run off on us.
The driver side of the trailer is where are the external connections are;
Electric, Water, Sewer and TV (Cable or Satellite, depending on the campground). Mag usually is inside by now and setting up things.
The campground was smallish but nice and management was very pleasant. We found ourselves in the habit of walking the campgrounds during stays. It’s always fun to check out all the different RVs from small to large to massive and camping folks are a nice sort. They always seem so friendly, pleasant and helpful if you need it.
We set up a small propane grill and cooked on the grill the first night. After dinner, we spent a quiet evening at the campsite.
Friday evening we caught up with Omei in (Brattleboro) for a walk around and dinner at Whetstone Station. We enjoyed a meal and a rainbow while catching up. Omei also has an RV. About a 20′ Class C and traveled across country with it several months earlier.
After our dinner, Omei brought us to The Retreat Farmstead. Formally owned and managed by the Brattleboro Retreat, today the farm is run by some local entrepreneurs and provide fresh vegetables to locals for “pay what you can.” Omei has worked the farm for a couple of years now and has taken a real liking to farming.
Nancy & I always enjoy a walk around the RV Park, usually for one last walk in the day. It gives us a chance to check out the other RV’s, campsite ideas & to pick out better options if we happen to return.
