Our next step was to locate a Grand Design Dealer and begin the purchasing process. Without mentioning any names, this part of the journey was not very pleasant. We realize the RV Industry has been going gangbusters because people were locked up in their domiciles and needed to get out. What better way to get out then jumping in an RV and hitting the road. Not sure if it was just the salesperson we were paired with or if it was just industry wide but, they were happy to take our money, after that, getting questions answered, delivery updates was a challenge. After we placed the order, we decided to visit the manufacturing plant in Elkhart, Indiana. Well, not exactly in Elkhart but in that area where most all RVs are manufactured. It was amazing to see. At every turn you could see another plant from a different manufacturer. The workforce at the sprawling Grand Design facility is comprised of roughly 45% Amish folks. During our visit to Elkhart, we also spent time with Amish folks during our visit; former customers of Mag’s. I was so enamored with them. Such gentle, kind and pleasant folks, I really enjoyed our time with them.
The tour we went on was actually in a facility that was building the same model we had ordered. That was a nice little bonus, allowing us to actually see how our exact model would be created.
We had ordered the RV in August/September 2021 and took delivery in May 2022. Longer than we anticipated but it was good it arrived after winter so we didn’t have to worry about storage. The final process of delivery included several hiccups which made us quite unhappy. In the final analysis, everything was worked out.
